History:
Founded in 1940
by Caceres bishop, MSGR pedro P.Santons of Caceres, and FR. Francis D. Burns
SJ. Ateneo de Naga has grown leaps and bounds from the small high school (Cammarines Catholic Academy) housed in the
present Naga parochial school run by the diocese. Jesuits just moved into the
new building when world war II broke out in the Pacific in 1941 and the school
was converted into a local fort Santiago by the Japanese imperial army until.
It peopened in 1946. It faced economic setbacks during martial law before
eventually overcoming these troubles to land in 1991 decs list of top 18
colleges and university in the Philippines. On February 9,1999, the commission
on higher education conferred the university status to the Ateneo. With FR.Raul
Bonoan SJ as first university president. On June 23,2003, the Ateneo de Naga
University high school in its new campus in Pacol, Naga City, welcomed 185
girls after 63 years of being exclusive for boys.
Mission
: The High
School of the Ateneo de Naga University forms its students into
young men and women for others characterized by Competence, Conscience,
Compassionate Commitment, and Christ-Centeredness through its holistic
educational program. The educational program is faith-inspired and
values-based, intergral and adaptive, interactive and collaborative, humanistic
and socially responsive. Cura Personalis characterizes all instruction,
stressing self-activity, inquiry, and mastery.
Vision
: The Ateneo de
Naga University High School is highly effective in its mission and goals for
secondary education in the Bikol Region.
The
school lives and operates out of Catholic and Ignatian values.
Religious
or lay, the pedagogues are highly competent and committed to their vocation as
companion and guide to students in their formation as men and women for others.
The
graduates are prepared for the rigors of higher education and the pursuit of
their interests as persons. In the tradition of excellence and formation, they
are imbued with core competencies in various forms of communication, equipped
with scientific and technological skills, a discerning conscience, and a
compassionate commitment to transcend self-centeredness. Inspired by Ignatian
Spirituality, they recognize the reality of the human and divine person of
Christ working actively in the lives of others. They are committed to take
responsibilities in the local Church and wider communities, especially in
caring for God’s creation.
